Working at Cordaid in the Netherlands
Working to promote development cooperation does not necessarily mean getting involved locally. Usually, the local population is perfectly prepared to make the necessary effort. What Cordaid does is support local organisations and their projects financially and with regard to drawing up policy. We do this from the Cordaid head office in The Hague.
Working for Cordaid abroad
Cordaid believes in the strength of people and local organizations in developing countries. Anything people can do themselves we do not intend to take off their hands. We only assign personnel at the request of our local partner organizations and only when there is no-one available with the same expertise locally. At the moment around 100 people work for Cordaid in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, and Eastern Europe. Their job is to reinforce the local organization by providing knowledge and advice, for example in the area of management or health care. In this manner temporary help from outside has a lasting effect.
Cordaid is affiliated with Caritas Internationalis, a worldwide network of Catholic organizations that provide emergency relief. Within this framework we assign personnel to humanitarian crises. These Cordaid experts are capable of responding to emergency situations by setting up and implementing programmes, together with local partner organizations as often as possible.
